Albuquerque AquariumExplore Ocean Life in our desert!!
The Albuquerque Aquarium, adjacent to the
Rio Grande Botanic Garden, is located along the Rio Grande River.
Opened to the public on December 5, 1996, the Aquarium offers
Albuquerque residents and visitors a new perspective on the Rio Grande
as New Mexico’s liquid connection to the Gulf of Mexico.
The aquarium tells the story of the river, from its headwaters to its entry to the Gulf of Mexico. Exhibits cover Gulf of Mexico saltwater species from a variety of habitats, including surf zone, shallow waters, coral reefs, open ocean, and deep ocean. The highlight of the aquarium is a 285,000 gallon shark tank with a 38-foot-wide viewing window. Other features include the Gulf Coast exhibit, with estuarine species, an authentic shrimp boat, an artificial coral reef teeming with life, the exciting walk-through moray eel tunnel, and a combined ray and shorebird exhibit. A stop at the Shark Reef Cafe and the Aquarium gift shop will satisfy shopping and dining needs. Admission & Park HoursAdmission to the Rio Grande Botanic Garden & Aquarium
